INFO:Hans Nowak began his career as full back but was then reskilled as an inside right and even once managed to score five goals in a league game (pre-Bundesliga). But soon Nowak was drawn back again to defense where he settled as one of the very first attacking full backs in German football. His main strength was his good positioning and his ability to switch from defense to offense in a matter of seconds. Nowak was endurable, good in marking, solid speed although not very fast, good energy and elegant technique. A very dynamic and straightforward player, Nowak was one of the favorites of the fans during his days playing for FC Schalke 04. He was one of the few bright spots in Germany’s 1962 World Cup campaign. However FC Schalke 04 was on a downward spiral by the mid-1960s which also showed in Nowak’s fewer international appearances, despite his reputation as one of the best full backs around. Nowak’s peak was certainly the early-/mid-1960s, but when he joined the young, newly-promoted Bayern München side in 1965, he was not a regular starter in most games anymore. Hans Nowak played a total of 98 league games (to 1963) and scored 24 goals. He had completed 47 games for Schalke in the Bundesliga, scoring three goals. For Bayern he played from 1965 to 1968 and played only 37 games in which he scored four goals. During this time he won with Bayern in 1966, the DFB-Pokal: On 4 June, the MSV Duisburg, Frankfurt am Main defeated 4-2 gates, together with Werner Olk he could convince the defense. 1967 - in the title defense - he was not in the eleven, for 31 May 1967 in the final of European Cup Winners' Cup competition against the Glasgow Rangers, the FC Bayern Munich, thanks to a goal from Francis Roth, a 1-0 decision in extra time for themselves and thus succeeded Borussia Dortmund. In the 1968/69 season he played on the "Bieberer Mountain. In only 12 missions, he could not prevent the descent of the Hessians in the second division. With the 0-3 away defeat at Borussia Dortmund on 7 June 1969 (Round 34) finished the season with the OFC 28:40 points and Hans Nowak said goodbye at the same time from the league. With his consistently good defensive performances in the club he was national coach Sepp Herberger attention to themselves, so this Nowak convened in 1961 in the German national soccer team. On 20 September he was in Dusseldorf - the 5-1 win over Denmark - His 15th and last game for the national team he played on 4 November 1964 in Berlin against Sweden. It was also the first game in the responsibility of the new national coach Helmut Schoen, and a World Cup qualifier for the 1966 World Cup in England, so the game was of particular importance. Nowak defended again on the side of Karl-Heinz Schnellinger and Hans Tilkowski in goal. The game ended in spite of great superiority of the German team with a 1-1 draw.
