In 1970 he lost the final of the Fairs Cup against Arsenal. Very strong and bulky player. Mulder had good pace, two-footed, very impulsive and combative player. Besides he had good close control and useful passes, so he often acted as deep-lying centre forward taking part in building the attacks. Mulder began his career at VCLT in Winschote. There he was discovered by RSC Anderlecht, where he would play seven years. In Belgium, he was with the club from Brussels four times champion. Also, Mulder once scorer of the first class in the season 1966/67. He was the first foreigner who performed since the Second World War. On 14 June 1972 he announced that he had chosen for Ajax, after fierce tug of war between Ajax and Feyenoord. The transfer fee was 1.3 million guilders, at that time a record amount for a Dutch club. A knee injury forced him in 1975 his football career prematurely. Mulder played during his career five times for the Dutch national team. But his years in Ajax were a disaster.
