One of the best German keepers, Franz Beckenbauer said if Nigbur was Bayern player he would have won 100 caps for Germany. Nigbur was the best PK saver in bundesliga history, saving 25 out of 31 penalties. He was keeper with good playing habits since he started as striker, had fantastic reflexes and excellent jumping abilities. Norbert had also good positioning on the line and long drop kicks. Norbert Nigbur played in his youth for Hessler 06 and was initially used as a central striker. On his 18th Birthday, his father signed with Schalke's President Fritz Szepan first professional contract. Schalke lost him in 1969 with the finals of the DFB Cup against Bayern Munich 1-2. The team at Nigbur, Klaus Fichtel, Rolf Rüssmann, Klaus Fischer and Reinhard Libuda was runner-up in 1972. Norbert Nigbur was Keeper of the Bundesliga this season with the fewest goals against. Over 555 minutes of time he suffered a clean sheet, the record had over ten years of existence. Schalke won the DFB Cup with a 5-0 victory over the first FC Kaiserslautern. This was the first national title for Nigbur and the first for the club championship for the 1958th Nigbur Sepp Maier was next to the FC Bayern Munich Bundesliga as the best goalkeeper of the 1970s. Involved from the Bundesliga scandal, in several Schalke players were, he was not affected. About the VfB Hüls 1984, he moved to Rot-Weiss Essen in the time of his third-rate Oberliga Nordrhein, where he played another 27 league games. In the subsequent rise of lap he was no longer used, so that he ended the season 1984/85 after his long career. On the circuit selection Nigbur reached the DFB youth team for which he was used 13 times: first time on 21 March 1965 in Oberhausen in the 1-2 defeat against the selection of Hungary, the last time on 25 May 1966 in Pristina during the 1-3 defeat - in the preliminary round of the UEFA Youth Tournament - against the choice of Spain. On February 23, 1974 Nigbur debuted in the senior team in the 0-1 defeat against Spain. He belonged to the National team squad that won the 1974 world title, but was behind only substitute goalkeeper Sepp Maier and was not used. On 2 April 1980 against Austria, he completed his last of six international matches. For the European Championships in Italy in 1980, he was provided as goalkeeper, but had to cancel because of a serious injury. Then Harald Schumacher goalkeeper, Nigbur never returned to the national team. Today has Nigbur real estate and trot racing.
