INFO:
Salvadore was a sweeper or centre back, capable of playing as side back and defensive midfielder. His career began in 1957 at Milan, where he spent five seasons, making 84 appearances. He joined Juventus in 1962, becoming one of the greatest defenders and captains in the history of the Bianconeri, playing 460 matches and scoring 17 goals until his retirement in 1974. He gained 36 caps for Italy, winning the 1968 UEFA Euro.
A versatile, all-round, commanding defender, Salvadore had consistent performances thanks to his skills and temperament. Especially when he playing as sweeper, he performed many taskes with a huge amount of work, facing each responsibility with success even when his condition wasn't optimal. Technically and physically gifted, he possessed fine speed and a strong body. He liked pushing forward, doing so with authority, acting like an additional forward particularly when he wanted to add weight to the attack if the strikers were unable to. He could make spectacular raids with the ball through the center, sometimes setting up the play or even reaching the opposing area, looking for space to shoot. Otherwise, he was effective when running down the flank in order to receive the ball and deliver an accurate cross. Superb in the air, he was a threat in the box thanks to his ability to jump higher than many other players and his highly accurate, strong headers. He reduced to the minimum his offensive prowess when he had to mark a fearsome striker, preferring to focus on his defensive duties. He successfully stopped great players like Luigi Riva, Luís Vinício and many more, making them feel his weight and muscles. If on one hand he was almost unbeatable in toe-to-toe challenges, he was less efficient when he decided to back off a bit and wait for the opponent, who had more space to dribble him.
