INFO:

One of the most underrated "Benfiquistas" ever. Santana was inside right who knew to play deeper sometimes, pretty lazy and selfish but I've never seen a player capable of pulling such a spectacular passes in Portugal except of Rui Costa. Great technician although looking clumsy but his ball control was great, he was good scorer and excellent passer with excellent vision and playmaking skills. 60/61 would be a historic season for Benfica. The time when the club lifted their first European Champion Clubs' Cup (TBI). The location of this achievement was the mythical Wankdorf Stadium in Berne (Switzerland), where in his first major appearance in a European final defeat embodied the FC Barcelona 3-2. Names like Joseph Waters, Mario Column, dig, or enter Costa Pereira forever in Gods of Olympus Ball. To these was joined by the name of Joaquim Santana, formerly known as the slouch of Catumbela did an exhibition gala that also would lift and end up high in the skies of Bern TCE. The following season Benfica reach again the decisive match between the clubs from the Old World, this time before the penta-European champions Real Madrid in Amsterdam (Netherlands), albeit without Santana at 11, winning his second TBI. This is because this team already figured a gentleman of your name ... Eusébio da Silva Ferreira. Yeah, the black panther grab Santana definitely the place, and even though not participating in this final game last player was also considered European champion in 61/62, as did some epic games of this victorious. Capped by Eusebius appearances of Santana at 11 holder Benfica would be less and less, and it was not today perhaps it'd be talking about a galactic ball of the size of Pele, Garrincha, Leonidas, Maradona, Cruyff, Best, Meazza, Platini or Eusebius himself. In its sporadic appearances in the starting lineup Benfica Santana shone, and so the game was the 1st leg of the Intercontinental Cup against Santos ... Santana Pele of this meeting would mark the two goals of his team in defeat tangential (2-3). In the second game there was an exhibition of the young Pele demolidarora who led his team to a 6-2 rout, which would mean winning the Intercontinental. Santana would mark one of the goals of Benfica, the other was written by Eusebius. In 62/63 would step the sacred turf of the mythical Wembley for the final against AC Milan EER. Not so lucky for two seasons before his team lost the trophy for the whole Italian after a defeat by 1-2. Over the years Santana had increasingly difficult to impose himself on the 11th and already embodied in the downswing of his career experienced shine in smaller clubs of Portuguese football, cases of Willows and Freamunde. While not reaching the fame of an eagle to the chest Eusebius, a column, a Joseph Waters, or a Simões, Santana was one of the greatest athletes that ever passed through this club. Recorded 225 games (a total of 12 times) and pointed 93 goals with the colors of Benfica. In its window, and beyond the two TCE, would keep yet 7 National Championships. He died in 1989.
