He was inside forward with great technique and dribbling, very skillful player with acurrate shot and good heading abilities. He was widely considered as the best left footed player in Spain alongside Ferenc Puskas. Romero came to Elche in 1960 by a businessman fooled Armenian Bogossian Arthur, who brought to Spain by promising to sign for Barcelona after being 17 times for the national team. But once here it was an unattractive then Elche (team of people and recently promoted to First Class) for a player enshrined in the South American football. During his first season he signified his class and scoring ease: 22 goals was a remarkable figure for a rookie in the category. The team was doomed to play-off dispute with Ceuta, after losing the first leg in the North African city, was preserved with a clear category Altabix 4-0 on a goal by Romero himself. Romero was the main actor of the golden era of the First Division club. Out by easy scoring despite playing what we call today as playmaker and during his stay at the club formed a front of the most prolific history of Elche, ahead of the clero, named for the initials of their names: Cardona, Lezcano, Eulogio Romero and Oviedo. During his time at Elche many clubs interested in him: Valencia CF, Sevilla FC, Atlético de Madrid but the club never agreed to transfer the player. In 1967, after seven seasons at the club, Alfredo Di Stefano, first team coach decides to forgo the services of Romero, who was 33 years. Juan Angel Romero played for seven seasons in the first team in the First Division and two years in the CD Ilicitano, holds the record for consecutive games with Elche CF (153 games and 5 full seasons), is the third top scorer in the club history (after Pierita and Nino), the top scorer in the First Division, scored 100 goals and 200 of all first club in a trail of milestones for this extraordinary player. Besides great stories left in his career, as his goal against Real Murcia, head and kneeling before the goal line, or support, keeping the door empty, which made the bejarano Vava top scorer in Primera. Leaving the Elche went on to play one season with the Hercules and after that returned to the club of his life to finish his career in Ilicitano CD, playing two seasons for the Tano.
