The brilliance of Zoltán Varga
He was a born genius, he knew everything with the ball, but his nature was not smooth, to put it mildly. Varga stood out from his teammates with his unexpected solutions and unparalleled technique. Little Puskás was the name stuck to him for a while, but more importantly, he mastered the trick that his teammates watched in his mouth in Hertha: he turned the direction of the rolling ball from the ground, turned it 180 degrees with a lightning-fast ankle movement, and then followed. Unforgettable moves, goals, pace on ball, lavish passes, great free kicks were his trademark. Super technician of great assists with both feet, constantly unmarking himself by running in free area. He thinks quickly and sometimes too quickly, passes in free space are sometimes unreachable because his teammates don't think so quickly. As a result of weight training, the leg muscle was strengthened, which was of great interest in the heading. At that time he was the only Hungarian leading player living and preparing in a professional way. He had an incredible playing intelligence, he could easily see on the field. We knew he wasn’t well with Albert, yet they filled each other with incredibly good balls on the field. He could have been a world star, never had any luck, or in Germany he didn’t like anyone who says what’s in his heart. In Ajax, it could have been fulfilled if the top instruction had not come before the World Cup that the members of the Dutch national team should play in the championship. In 1964, Zoltán Varga was an Olympic champion and bronze medalist in the European Championship with the Hungarian national team. Between 1961 and 1968, he was successful 53 times in 135 matches in Ferencváros. He went abroad in 1968 and became a player of the German Hertha BSC. He later strengthened the ensemble of Aberdeen in Scotland, Ajax in the Netherlands, Borussia Dortmund in Germany and Ghent in Belgium. Sándor Tihanyi's report would not have been worth much if it had not come up with a current problem. Fradi had two catch names at the time: Albert Flórián and Varga Zoltán. Albert was untouchable because of his “empire,” but from that he was still actively watching, and they knew from the reports that he would never leave Ferencváros. Varga, on the other hand, was vulnerable. His quarrel with Albert and his ambition for his talent gave rise to a conflict of interest. A possible Varga dissident could have been an excellent apropos to finally bring together the “phenomena” that can be experienced in the association.
