INFO:Longoni was a left back ─ he acted as left winger in his youth career at Inter before Giacinto Facchetti was promoted to the first team. He spent the majority of his career at Cagliari from 1965 to 1969 and Fiorentina from 1969 to 1973, respectively playing 137 and 142 matches and scoring 7 and 5 goals. He was unlucky to miss two consecutive
Scudetto wins because he joined Fiorentina right after the team won the 1968-69 Serie A while Cagliari, the club he just left, won the 1969-70 edition. He played also for Como, Modena, Chicago Mustangs and Lanerossi Vicenza, where he retired in 1976.
Longoni was a side back mainly focused on the offensive play. He possessed a powerful left-footed shot and was an able piece taker. He scored some penalties with Cagliari in the 1965-66 season and a free kick during his time at Fiorentina. He supported the attack well thanks to good speed and very accurate crossing ability. Less effective in the defence, he wasn't too effective in physical duels due to his short size and wasn't always careful on tackles, committing several fauls. On the other hand, he was reactive enough to intercept shots, even on the goal line, or to reject away balls saved by his goalkeeper.
