The brilliance of Zoltán Varga
He was a born genius, he knew everything with the ball, but his nature was not smooth, to put it mildly. Varga stood out from his teammates with his unexpected solutions and unparalleled technique. Little Puskás was the name stuck to him for a while, but more importantly, he mastered the trick that his teammates watched in his mouth in Hertha: he turned the direction of the rolling ball from the ground, turned it 180 degrees with a lightning-fast ankle movement, and then followed. He could have been a world star, never had any luck, or in Germany he didn’t like anyone who says what’s in his heart. In Ajax, it could have been fulfilled if the top instruction had not come before the World Cup that the members of the Dutch national team should play in the championship. In 1964, Zoltán Varga was an Olympic champion and bronze medalist in the European Championship with the Hungarian national team. Between 1961 and 1968, he was successful 53 times in 135 matches in Ferencváros. He went abroad in 1968 and became a player of the German Hertha BSC. He later strengthened the ensemble of Aberdeen in Scotland, Ajax in the Netherlands, Borussia Dortmund in Germany and Ghent in Belgium.
