INFO:Vavassori was a goalkeeper. Grown up at Juventus, he began his professional career on loan at Carrarese in 1955. He played for Juventus from 1955 to 1961, making 81 appearances ─ most of which in the last season. He then joined Catania, where he played 161 matches from 1961 to 1966. He had his last experience at Bologna from 1966 to 1972, playing 156 games. He capped once for Italy in 1961.
One of the best Italian goalkeepers of the 1960s, Vavassori was athletically gifted, possessed outstanding reaction, agility and great sprint. He was very brave but not always calm, effective when coming out of the goal but sometimes too reckless. He could make impressive leaps but seemed to have troubles when the ball reached a high corner of the goal. He had great positional sense and was good at catching the ball, even though he preferred rejecting it with his punches. Technically gifted for a goalkeeper of his time, he was comfortable at stopping shots with the feet and used them also to kick the ball away at the edge of the area. Even in his late years, when he lost some speed and timing, he was still capable of making spectacular saves and stopping his opponents in 1-on-1 situations. His form was also very good since he made over 40 appearances in his first two years at Bologna.
