INFO:Hitchens was a centre forward. His career began in 1953 at Kidderminster. He played for Cardiff City from 1954 to 1957, scoring 40 goals in 95 league matches. He had his most prolific time at Aston Villa ─ he's regarded as one of the club's best ever strikers ─ scoring 96 times in 160 games. He then played for Inter in 1961-62, scoring 20 goals in 43 appearances. He left the
Nerazzurri at the beginning of the 1962-63 season and spent three years at Torino, scoring 34 goals in 109 matches. After two years at Atalanta and two at Cagliari, he came back to England, playing in minor leagues. He retired in 1971. He gained 7 caps for England, scoring 5 goals.
Hitchens was a complete and consistent centre forward, gifted with good speed, great strength, ability in the air, reaction in the box, a powerful and accurate shot. He had no problem to fight the defences and run through them thanks to determination and braveness. He possessed good dribbling and technique, even though his movements when overcoming an opponent weren't too quick. However, his playstyle was mainly focused on emphasizing aggressiveness and agonism. He fought on every ball, chasing all of them even outside the box, challenging his opponents in physical duels with no fear. He could even take the ball off a defender and shoot immediately, even from difficult positions. He was also an able penalty taker, who kicked the ball without running. He was occasionally seen assisting a teammate with nice short passes.
