Ercan was very good defender, strong and tall commanding the back line with power, clean right timed interventions and he was excellent in aerial play. Through his many years of service for Fenerbahce, he is associated with this club. Because of the similarity of his style of play to that of Cesare Maldini, he was named to his active Maldini Ercan. Aktuna began with the end of the 50s professional football in the youth of the Turkish first division İstanbulspor. In 1959, he was then taken into the senior squad and trained over two seasons for the regular player. In 1964 he succeeded the final breakthrough. In his team he was promoted to regular player and after he played three times for the Turkish U -21, he was also international. So it was not long until he got transfer from the big Istanbul clubs. In the summer of 1965, his move to first division club Fenerbahce was announced. Here he quickly established himself as a regular player and won with the team 1967/68 and 1969 /70 Turkish football championship. From the 1971/72 season he lost his position in the team unumstreitbare and sat on the bench more often . Particularly under coach Valdir Pereira , he played no role in the team's formation . After the team had the game 1973/74 season crowned with the Turkish Football Championship, Aktuna announced the end of his active playing career known. Aktuna 1964 played three times for the Turkish U-21 national team. In the same year he completed his first of a total of 29 caps for the Turkish national team. In 1965, he took with Turkey on ECO - Cup portion and took second place . 1967 and 1969 he took part with Turkey again and won this cup both times. Following his playing career , he visited England a one-year coaching and sports management course. In February 1987 he was unveiled as manager of Fenerbahçe. Just six months after he announced his resignation. Aktuna recently worked as football columnist for various newspapers. Ercan Aktuna died in September 2013 at the age of 73 years in the Fatih Sultan Mehmet hospital in Istanbul.
