INFO:

Former Atletico player, very good defender who was regarded as one of the best defenders in the world at the time. Jorge was centre back, great defender with good attacking play despite the fact he didn't score many goals. But he was pretty offensive centre back, starting the attacks from the back line and rushing forward, gifted technically with good pace, solid dribbling and ground passes. Good marker, tough when needed but not violent, had excellent positioning and very brave defender, with great determination. He was born on May 7, 1936 in Casilda (Argentina). He began his career in the lower Newells Old Boys, where he was released and where he triumphed. His debut in the first division was in 1954 and since his debut until 1958 was fixed and one of the bastions of the set Rosario. Debuted off post, marking tip and the man who was fortunate - Micheli, then right-pointer made three goals So will beat Independiente Newells. It seemed a good sign, but soon recovered, so much so that he became the skipper of the team, winning over the fans with his game and his Chilean handsome saving. Jorge Bernardo Griffa was a player symbol, those that are milestones in the history of any club in the world. His next destination was Atletico Madrid. Griffa came to Atleti in season 1959/1960. His arrival coincides with a period of renewal in the club. In the ranks renunen colchoneras is a group of good players who contribute to the fans many glorious afternoons: Madinabeytia, Rivilla, Griffa, Callejo, Ramiro, Chuzo, Miguel, Adelardo, Mendoza, Peiro, Alvarito, Irusquieta, Jones, Rafa, Alvaro, Vava... With red and white shirt won: 1 Liga (1965/1966), 3 Cups (1960, 1961 and 1965) and 1 Cup Winners Cup (1962), and was runner-up in 1964 Cup and Cup Winners' Cup in 1963. Formed a classic defensive trio Atletico Madrid: Rivilla-Griffa-Calleja. On November 1, 1967 the club a tributary tribute match in which Atletico Madrid lost 1-2 against Benfica on a full Manzanares who went with Griffa as ever. The Argentine said "I am more than satisfied with what I could imagine. The public has responded by far ". He left Atletico in June 1969. After he left the mattress set went to Espanyol where he played one season 70/71, which finally hung up his boots at the age of 35. But Griffa had not yet said its last word in the world of football as a player because if he wrote brilliant pages in the history of the sport, as coach became one of the most admired and recognized in the history of Argentine football. Especially as the discoverer of great players in the lower divisions of Newells Old Boys and Boca Juniors. After retiring from the playing fields, Rosario team officials offered to take over the lower divisions where in 30 years managed to form a genuine football school football model for the world as it figures out as Valdano, Gallego , Balbo, Sensini, Batistuta, Pochettino, Berizzo and among many other talents.
