Ladislao Mazurkiewicz is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the history both in America and worldwide, the largest in Uruguay and one of the most outstanding in the World Cup. Came the historic April 1, 1965, playoff game day in the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores 1965 against Santos of Brazil, where he played Pelé. After the return match played at the Centenary, which Peñarol won 3-2 and forced a third game, Maidment was removed from campus for a disciplinary problem. The technician had no choice but to align the young Mazurkiewicz for the decisive encounter. Ladislao's performance was sensational on the court's Monumental de Núñez (neutral venue for the playoff game) and beat Santos 2-1 Peñarol thus reached another final of the Copa Libertadores. That night began the legend of Ladislao Mazurkiewicz. His prodigious reflections, their safety in the sticks, the departure and special clearances opportunism in the lift with one hand centers rushed to the ownership Mazurkiewicz under the framework of the national team of Uruguay is preparing to participate in Cup England's World 66. The World Cup was good for Uruguay despite being the subject of one of the biggest robberies in history. Peñarol Mazurkiewicz continued his career with local success as were the champions in 1967 and 1968. Also in that 1967 managed to establish the record for most minutes without conceding a goal: 985 minutes with a clean sheet for 11 dates of the Uruguayan championship. For the World Mexico 1970 and 25 years of age was already considered by many as the best goalkeeper in the world. In the match against the mighty Soviet Union in the quarterfinals Mazurkiewicz again became impassable wall. Arc kept inviolate his 90 minutes of regular time and overtime 30. The party is defined in the last minute of the second overtime. Uruguay reached the semi-finals to face Brazil. One June 17, 1970 at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, Uruguay could not maintain the advantage of a goal achieved in the first minutes of the game and fell by three goals to one against future world champions. But stay in the memory of all those attending the Jalisco that day and the millions of viewers worldwide who staged the play Mazurkiewicz Pele and when the duel was already defined. Although not scored, the feint of the great Brazilian star goalkeeper on the sky to let the ball at full speed toward the goal and then his shot went just inches from the goal, is stored in the trunk of a World Cup memories of the most famous plays in history, by design and by the greatness of its protagonists.
