INFOAntonio Afonso Moreno (25 August 1943 – 9 June 1975), known as Tonono, was a Spanish footballer who played as a sweeper. At his peak, Tonono was one of the best players in Europe. Unfortunately he died very young just like Guedes, another Las Palmas legend. He was sweeper and played all positions in defence and central midfield. Famous for his excellent passes, that's why he's been nicknamed "Omega". He was very elegant, punctual, and gifted technically. He excelled in anticipating and positioning. Very skillful in moving with the ball from defence and starting the attacks. Afonso Antonio Moreno, known in the football world as Tonono, born in Arucas on August 26, 1943. He started in the team of his hometown where he went to the lower echelons of the UD Las Palmas in the 61-62 season. Aligned the in the line as a pair with Guedes. This tandem was inseparable both on and off the field and even the fate that ended their careers prematurely. In his first season, he played seven games and Tonono not occupied the position with which enshrine as a player, libero, but lined both side of the defense and the midfield. It was the following season, with Rosendo Hernández on the bench, when he starts from the beginning to align central defense, which gradually strengthens and consolidates as a great player some amazing technical qualities and accompanied by a great regularity in his actions. His last game was in the Cup against Malaga at the Estadio Insular June 1975. He died a few days later as a result of an unexpected viral infection fulminant ended his brilliant career with 32. Las Palmas, played 379 league games, 2 goals, 52 cup matches and 8 games of the UEFA Cup, in addition to international friendlies and confrontations in the Iberian and Colombino Trophy and tours to Venezuela and Mexico .
