INFO:Gardoni was a centre-back or centre-half who could also play as sweeper and side-back. He grew up at Atalanta but debuted professionally with Caravaggio, where he played on loan in 1953-54. He then played for Palazzolo and Reggiana, again on loan, between 1954 and 1958. He eventually became an Atalanta player in 1958 and a starter in the team two years later. He made a total of 238 appearances for Atalanta between 1958 and 1967, scoring 1 goal. He was team captain from 1960 to 1964 and in 1966-67, and won the 1962-63 Coppa Italia while filling the captain role. He retired in 1969 following one season with Reggina and one with Pergolettese.
A defender or midfielder, Gardoni was a firm and efficient player who didn't care much of playing a stylish football. His playing style was focused on facing his opponent one-on-one, tackling him even roughly if necessary, and eventually clear the ball away as far as possible. He seemingly suffered against technical players who could get past him with a feint. Nonetheless, Gardoni was always described as an efficient defender, especially close to his own goal. He scored his only goal in a 1964 match against Vicenza, confirming the emphasis on his defensive game.
