INFOGilberto Rodríguez Pérez (Los Silos, Tenerife; December 4, 1941 - Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; August 7, 2018), was a Spanish footballer who played for UD Las Palmas and CD Tenerife. Gilberto was technically gifted player with his trademark rocket shot. He scored a lot of goals from long distances, showing good pace and dribbling. Gilberto scored lot of goals, sometimes even with right foot or head. At 21 he was signed by UD Las Palmas. Gilberto I arrived in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in September 1962, where he played for 11 years. During that period scored 73 times, 39 of which were in the First Division. The 1963-1964 season would finish in 3rd position. The season 1964/65 spent a year ascent, finishing the season with the team in 1st place in Group II of the Second Division and ascending directly to the First Division. That year he played 28 games. In his debut in the First Division (season 1965-1966), the team would finish in 9th position. He played 29 games, and was not replaced in any occasion. He scored seven goles. A year later (season 1966/67), finished in 10th place in the standings. That year Gilberto played 29 games, all as a starter, and scored 3 goals. In the 1967-1968 season the team becomes the revelation of the championship, achieving 3rd place 4 points behind Real Madrid, who eventually won the trophy. Gilberto I got 8 goals during the season. The 1971-1972 season was much more successful than the previous ones, he scored three goles. The 1972-1973 season was the last one in Canaria. They were in 11th place in the national campenato, and shone in the UEFA Cup, where the team overcame Torino, FC Slovan Bratislava and finally being eliminated in the quarterfinals by FC Twente. After finishing the 1972/73 season, and 31 years, left the UD Las Palmas to play for D.C. Tenerife. After a few more years in the Second Division, Gilberto Rodríguez Pérez "Gilberto I" retired from football with CD Tenerife being his last club.
