Quote:
Billy McNeill was a very good Centre Half, commanding in the air, an inspired Captain, a good leader, and he chipped in with a few important goals over the years. As a defender, he had his weaknesses though, he was often destroyed by the sheer power, strength and guile of Jimmy Millar, he was taken to the cleaners a few times, by a speedy two footed teenager called Jim Forrest. As much as Stein saw the leadership qualities in McNeill, he was smart enough to see his weaknesses as well, and set about playing the unheralded, but vitally important, John Clark behind him, as a sweeper. Even with all his experience and aerial command, McNeill (along with Jim Craig), could not prevent a 16 year old from out-jumping them both, to head the winner in the 1970 League Cup Final.

Unbelievable, goodbye Billy, simply the most important player to ever wear the Celtic shirt.

I know this set isn't in the section to be updated, but imo a few things could be changed:

STA from 80 to 79: he barely moved from his area of the pitch, and he wasn't the type of defender to chase after the ball relentlessly, no need for him to be on yellow here.

TS from 77 to 76, ACC from 75 to 74: Again, he didn't move much on the pitch. He was mostly a static wall of a defender, anything he didn't immediately cut out with his positioning was sweeped up by Clark.

SPA from 75 to 73, LPA from 76 to 74: Definitely shouldn't be above Clark, he was just average to poor on the ball. Most of his passes were simple and with the excellent passer Murdoch playing in front of him he wasn't expected to do any difficult passes.

HEA from 90 to 92, JUM from 85 to 86: Simply put, one of the most dominant players in the air I've ever seen. Even despite his great height he had a big leap and wonderful placement on his headers, scoring numerous important goals with them. I honestly can't say I remember seeing him lose an aerial battle.

MEN from 94 to 95: One of the greatest team leaders of all time. Never lost his composure, always ready to give everything for the shirt. Even against the disgusting Racing team in the Intercontinental Cup he was maybe the only player not to lose his cool, and even swapped shirts with an opposition player after they had spent 270 minutes kicking and spitting on his teammates. I can easily see him on the level of great captains like Segarra and Billy Wright (both on 95).
