INFO:Hodgkinson was a goalkeeper. One of the finest in the history of Sheffield United, he played only for "the Blades", appearing in 675 matches from 1954 to 1971. He capped 5 times for England between 1957 and 1960 despite playing in Second Division and the national team never lost a match with him between the posts. Unfortunately, he didn't have the chance to cap again during his time in First Division.
Hodgkinson was a brilliant and reliable shot stopper. He possessed exceptional agility and was great at reading the game. He was always in the right place at the right time thanks to a sharp sense of position. His incredible reaction and mobility made him capable of reaching all the corners of the goal. He could make fast strides out of the goal to cover the area and help the defenders, acting like a sweeper-goalkeeper
ante litteram. His goal kicks didn't have great power but sometimes reached the other half of the field. Well built but short, his outstanding abilities surely put his size in the background.
