Volpato is a former right and center back. One of Vicenza historical players, he played only for the Lanerossi throughout his career and he's one of the players with most appearances in the club: 256 from 1962 to 1975.
Volpato was a valid and able defensive full-back, who used mainly the strength to challenge the opponents. He had great determination but sometimes was too impetuous and committed many fouls. He seemed less effective against quick dribblers and had troubles in the air due to his short size. He was very offensive and didn't miss the chance to push forward whenever he could, often looking for space to shoot. His shots though were powerful but lacked of accuracy. In fact, he scored only once. He wasn't too accurate also when distributing the ball in his own area, causing troubles when he decided to pass the ball back to the goalkeeper.
