Attack MindedINFO:Maioli was an inside forward who spent most of his career at Foggia, playing 212 matches and scoring 16 goals from 1964 to 1971, and he's considered one of the finest players in the club history. He's been captain of the team and was a fan favourite. He played many matches also at Hellas Verona in three separate spells − 1959-60, from 1961 to 1964, between 1971 and 1973 − for a total of 155 games and in 22 goals. He played also for Napoli and Lecco, where he retired in 1974. His performances and class led him to play for Italy U-23 and to be point of interest for many Italian big clubs.
Gifted with excellent technical qualities and good vision of the game, throughout his career Maioli gained several nicknames, which summarize his class and playstyle: "Professor" because he could distribute the ball with a studied and geometrical game; "Forbidden left-foot" and "Tremendous left-foot" for the accuracy he had on his favourite foot; "Wooden leg" due to the power of his shots from outside the box. He was a decent finalizer but he was better as playmaker. An excellent passer − either in movement or from free kick and corner − he was the one who orchestrated the maneuvers. He was in fact a very good free kick taker. He could do anything, dribble some opponents and try to shoot or distribute the ball to a near teammate, to the flank or in the box. Maioli was mostly an inside but he was also used as left-winger by both Hellas Verona and Foggia and occasionally even as left wing-back when he played for the
Rossoneri. In fact he could use better his sprints and dribbling ability in those positions.
