Another underrated member of the Lisbon Lions, usually unfairly forgotten in favour of his defensive partner Billy McNeill. Clark's job was to sweep up anything that managed to get past the wall that was McNeill, hence his nickname, "The Brush". His mobility and energetic defending made him a perfect partner for the somewhat immobile McNeill, although Clark's lack of height and physical presence were compensated for by McNeill's aerial dominance. Clark was also fairly comfortable on the ball and was often tasked with bringing the ball out from the back, although he only scored 3 goals in his entire career and rarely crossed the halfway line. He was also very consistent, and played 140 consecutive matches between April 1965 and September 1967, including every single game in Celtic's quadruple winning season in 1966/67. He was a tough tackler like many of the Lisbon Lions but otherwise was a good gentleman on the pitch and was regarded for his composure and total reliability.

Clark was the first of the Lisbon Lions to be phased out of the first team, but has been employed as Celtic's kit man for over 20 years, putting him only behind Willie Maley as the man who has served Celtic the longest.
