Attack / Defence Awareness Card: Defense MindedINFO:Probably the best Australian defender ever and the first player from Oceania to make an impact abroad. Marston is considered one of Preston North End's greatest players despite only playing there for 5 years and being a regular for 4. He was a tough and well built defender with excellent reading of the game, as intelligent as he was strong. Since the start of the 1951 season he never missed a game until his last in a Preston shirt. He was the first Australian to play in an FA Cup final (a 3-2 loss to West Brom in 1954) and was also picked to play for the English League XI, a rare feat for a foreign player. He was considered one of the finest centre halfs in England while there and his signature was sought after by many clubs, although feeling homesick, he returned to Australia in 1955. While his career outside Australia was short, his performances were outstanding enough that he was voted North End's 4th greatest player of all time.
