Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Defence MindedINFO:Eddie Shimwell was an English right back who was part of Blackpool's legendary generation in the late 40s and early 50s. He was renowned for his physical prowess, well-built for his era. He was a hard tackler and fighter, although he was also known for the timing of his tackles, he wasn't a butcher. In fact his ball handling was pretty good, being fairly comfortable dribbling with the ball and he could send useful long passes hit at high speeds; his clearances were also notably powerful and often ended up in the opponent's half. He even scored 2 goals in Blackpool's run to the 1948 FA Cup final, including a penalty in the final itself, becoming the first full back to do so. On the other hand he wasn't particularly quick or strong in the air. He served Blackpool for over a decade, playing in three FA Cup finals, and gained a sole cap for England in 1949.
