INFO:
Demanuele was a left winger. He spent almost his entire career at Floriana, scoring 101 goals in 190 matches from 1946 to 1964. He retired a year later, after a season at Marsa. He represented Malta in 8 occasions, scoring 3 times.
Regarded as one of the best ever Maltese player, Demanuele was a fast and keen player, who made a lot of runs down the flank and delighted the crowds with great left-footed touches and deadly shots. His constant feints and quick dribblings made him one of the most exciting left-wingers in Malta. Despite the fact that at his time most wingers used to reach the touchline rather than moving in the penalty box, he proved to be a more old-school winger who scored a lot of goals. In fact, he was twice top scorer of the Maltese league. Demanuele was undoubtedly the best of the many wingers who played for Floriana, since the team used to create a lot of plays on the flanks. In the 1950s, when Demanuele was at the peak of his career, he travelled to England on holiday to visit Johnnie Alamango, another Maltese player who was on trial at Arsenal but was ultimately refused by the club. He met Fulham's goalkeeper Ian Black, who introduced him to Fulham. The Maltese striker scored two goals for Fulham in a reserve game and received an offer for a contract with the team. He also received offers from Arsenal, Liverpool and Wolverhampton. However he refused all the offers and came back to Malta. Demanuele's best performance though was probably before his peak: in a league match against Valletta in 1949, after showing all of his tricks, at half game he received a pass on the left wing, beat the right back, ran towards the area waiting for the goalkeeper to move out of the goal and beat legendary Wenzu Gabaretta with a thunderous shot at the far side. Moreover, he did it again some minutes later to prove that the first goal wasn't a fluke.
