Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Defence MindedINFO:Joe Walton was a former Preston North End defender and part of the team during the 50s that came runner up in the FA Cup and First Division. He was mainly a left back but could play on the right side too. Walton was a solid defender, quick and a good tackler, excellent at reacting faster than the attacker and stealing it from them. While he had a small physique and was below average in the air he made up for it with bravery. He was limited technically but he wasn't afraid to venture into the opposition's half unlike most full backs in that era. He was also almost completely two footed which helped a lot when clearing the ball. He spent 13 years at Preston, playing 435 games in total. He was never capped for England, mostly due to the presence of Roger Byrne in his position, but was considered one of the most reliable defenders in the country at his peak.
