He is remembered for being Denmark's starting goalkeeper as they won a silver medal at the 1960 Olympics, and especially for saving a penalty in the semi final against Hungary after taking the chewing gum from his mouth and sticking it to the goalpost. From was a very reliable and consistent goalkeeper with great positioning, not known for making mistakes. Very calm and composed, although not making spectacular saves. For the first half of his career he was considered an average goalkeeper but in the second half of the 1950s, as he approached the age of 30, his career took off and he had great successes with AGF Aarhus and the Denmark national team. He was already 31 when he made his debut for his country. With AGF he won 4 league titles and 4 Danish Cups, all between 1955 and 1961, the year he retired. His penalty save in 1960 is one of the most iconic moments in Danish football history and proof of his complete composure on the field, although off the field he was actually very critical of his own abilities. Definitely one of the most respected legends in both AGF and Denmark's history.
