Attack/Defence Awareness Card: BalancedINFO:Bertie Peacock was a Northern Irish footballer, one of the leading Celtic players during the 1950s. He was captain of Celtic and was also an important player in Northern Ireland's 1958 team that reached the quarter finals. Bertie started his career as an inside forward but in the 53/54 season was moved to left half where he shined. His main attribute was his amazing work rate, covering a large area of the pitch and giving strong contributions in both defence and attack. He also had good technical abilities, especially his close control, perhaps from his time as an inside forward. He was a pretty good passer too and could deliver dangerous free kicks into the box. He formed an excellent pair of half backs with Bobby Evans for Celtic and Danny Blanchflower for Northern Ireland. Despite his small size he was a very tenacious player and during the 1958 World Cup the local press called him "The Little Ant" because of his hard work and short physique. He played 450 times for Celtic and is a legend for both club and country. After retiring he managed Northern Ireland, and was later Billy Bingham's assistant manager during the 1982 World Cup where his country again reached the next stage. He was also co-founder of the Milk Cup, an internationally respected youth tournament.
