One of the most talented players to ever play for Celtic, Charlie Tully was a great entertainer on the pitch, stories of his flair and trickery are still talked about today. He had fantastic control over the ball and was able to tease and dance past even the meanest of defenders, particularly the famous Rangers defence known as the "Iron Curtain". He was also famous for his goals directly from corner kicks, scoring 11 in his career. His most famous moment came when he scored directly from a corner kick against Falkirk in 1953, only for the referee to disallow the goal because the ball hadn't been in the arc at the corner flag. Tully, upon retaking the corner, repeated the exact same trick, scoring from the corner, and the goal was given. He also scored directly from a corner for Ireland against England in 1952. He was exceptionally two footed and could take corners from both sides with both feet. Despite this he was a lazy player, known for loving the nightlife and maybe being too dedicated to his tricks and jokes to be consistently effective on the pitch. His humorous approach to the game made him an incredibly popular figure amongst fans and the media but frustrated his coaches and teammates. He was also unlucky to play in a period where Celtic were not in their best shape, almost getting relegated just before his arrival and only winning a single league title in his 11 years at the club. But Tully's talent, trickery and popularity meant more to the Celtic fans than any trophies ever could.
