Herberger was the steps he plans to attack the newly installed National Amateur of the DFB, the chance to prove himself internationally in an A international against Luxembourg. The game ended with a 3-0 win. The outstanding player of the Bremer amateur league played on 14 and 18 May 1952 first two international matches in the history of the amateur national team of the DFB. It was compiled by national coach Sepp Herberger and trained and prepared themselves for the Olympic Games in July / August 1952 in Helsinki. Contract players equipped with the then-top-class soccer leagues were not approved due to the current definition of amateur. Schroeder won the Olympic tournament in the games against Egypt (3-1), Brazil (4:2), Yugoslavia (1:3) and in the bronze medal game against Sweden (0-2), the international experts. After the tournament, Schröder was, together with Ferenc Puskas, Stjepan Bobek and Barbosa Tozzi (Brazil) has been voted the best left half-forward. From the Olympic tournament back active again in the upper house in Bremen Bremen amateur in 1860, Schroeder confirmed his good reviews in the 2-0 success on 9 November 1952 in Basel at the B international against Switzerland. He acted on the center forward position closer to the league players Gerritzen Felix, Alfred Preissler, Franz and Bernhard Islacker Termath and scored both goals.
