Karl Koller was legendary Austrian midfielder, one of the greatest footballers. Koller played as wing half and centre half, in NT he was more defensive midfielder who protected the midfield behind Hanappi and Ocwirk. Meanwhile in his club First Vienna he was more offensive, acting as playmaker. He was strong player, not too fast with good technique although sometimes looked clumsy. Karl had powerful shot and great capacity in defence and attack, he was very endurable player. Karl Koller started his football career in Döbling in Vienna, where he made his debut in 1949 in the championship. Already in 1952 Karl Koller managed the leap to the national team, where he was able to convince in his first operations against Belgium (2-0) and Ireland (6:0). He drove one of the regulars to the World Championships (World Cup) in 1954 in Switzerland and was formed together with the Austrians, the Austrian Ernst Ocwirk midfield. In Switzerland, the Austrian team achieved a sensational third place, with Karl Koller played in all matches. The following season the combative midfielder could win with his first national title in Vienna. With Vienna, he triumphed in the championship points in front of the WSC. With the national team, Karl Koller made after passing the 1958 World Cup qualifiers on their way to Sweden. Austria, however, caught with England, Brazil and the then Soviet Union, a strong tough group. For example, the came for the Austrians at the group stage, but you could sell well. When hard-fought 2-2 draw against England, where Austria was able to walk twice in the lead, Karl Koller also scored one of his rare team goals. With the Vienna it would no longer work with a title win in 1961, Karl Koller was with the team, both second in the championship and the Cup. With the Austrian national team, he could not convince the European Championship in 1960. The team failed in the quarterfinals at the French hosts. At Euro 1964, was already off in the second round with a defeat against Ireland. Karl Koller's career ended with the team missed the 1966 World Cup qualifying, with the Austrian Association, unthinkable today, yet the attendance at the 1962 World Cup due to the high cost of travel to Chile had canceled. Koller played in the championship with the Blue-Yellow to 1965 and ended his career after 836 games and 101 goals for Vienna. He is regarded as one of Ernst Ocwirk of Austria's best midfielder and was among other things, the IFFHS as one of the 100 best European footballer of the 20th Century award. The national team finished 86 games for the team and participated in two World Cups and European Championships. The highlight of the career of the legendary Vienna is the third Place at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland. On 24 January 2009 Koller died from the effects of Alzheimer's disease. Karl Koller lived Blumau-Neurißhof, where he owned an inn until 2000 and was buried in the local cemetery and a grave of honor in the community.
