Paul Halla is former Rapid legend and the first offensive side back in Austrian football which isn't too weird since he started to play as the right winger. Paul was very fast player which allowed him to make good runs on the right flank and score a decent amount of goals for a defender, although he sometimes played in the attack and more often as the right wing half. Halla was very strong player with solid passing range and ball control. Halla began his footballing career at SK Sturm Graz played as a youth player, but from 1951 to 1953 at the city rivals Grazer AK as a right midfielder. Halla joined in 1953 by the Austrian record champions GAK Rapid Vienna. For Hütteldorfer to 1965, he completed a total of 346 competitive matches, was Austrian champion five times and once Austrian Cup winners. On 23 November 1952, he celebrated in the game against Portugal (1-1) made ​​his debut in the Austrian national team, for whom he played 34 international matches and scored two goals. Paul Halla occupied with the national team at the FIFA World Cup 1954 in Switzerland sensational third place and took part in the football World Cup 1958 in Sweden. Halla was active until 1976 as an active soccer player. On one occassion Paul Halla even played as a goalkeeper replacing the injured Walter Zeman, than later when Zeman recovered Halla moved again on the field position. He also captained Rapid Wien after the retirement of legendary Gerhard Hanappi. Paul Halla died on 6 December 2005 from the effects of stomach surgery and was on 16 December 2005 buried at Vienna's Central Cemetery.
