INFOPaul Mebus was great wing half with good dribbling and technique but could play only 65-70 minutes and had big problems with alcohol which reduced his fame and chances in NT. Mebus was fast player, technically on very high level, had solid strength despite the small size. 1947 began training as a football coach at the Sports University Cologne, where Herberger was in charge. Mebus was best of the first year and as a reward for a year Herberger's assistant, until his ambitious Hennes Weisweiler the dispute took place. Mebus was the son of a spin - and would himself like to become a shoemaker. In 1952, he could not accept a lucrative offer overseas, since he had been inspired by his elders, scarlet fever and was sick for weeks. He would also not be accepted, because money was not important to him and he wanted to build something at home. 1951, with the change to 1.FC Cologne, he opened a fashion store in a street in Cologne several players had any business. Although he sold there after the World Cup pure silk scarves with a print of the final statements and the names and flags of other participating nations, he went bankrupt in 1960 with the fashion business. A job as a coach because he had long since lost due to alcohol problems. But Mebus was lucky and found the head of the lottery headquarters in Cologne a patron, who accepted of him, hired him and calling him "dry" was given. For four years he fought on the front, made the withdrawal of troops from Lapland on foot and fought in the last tank battle in the Mark Brandenburg. In the military hospital in Luckenwalde nursed him his future wife, Marta, a Silesian refugees who followed him after his injury-related early release from captivity after Westphalia. Due to a fracture in his left arm, which cost him a 10 cm bone, he had some years a leather collar cuff tragen. Despite this Mebus played a major role in his club, but also broke three times in the forearm, which took longer breaks between games with them .At 9 he was a club member, and at 17 he was active in the first team of VfL Benrath that had lifted his father and his brothers from the baptism. In 1951 he moved to 1.FC Cologne, for whom he played 91 league games until 1956. He was part of the West German team that won the 1954 FIFA World Cup. He earned six caps for West Germany. He died in 1993.
