INFO:

One of the greatest ever players from Sweden and surely the most underrated one. Selmosson starred in Italy throughout 50's, playing mainly as inside left and outside left. Although in modern tactics with his skills and behaviour on the pitch, the most optimal position would be LMF but again he was very offensive minded player who didn't like to come back and help in defensive duties. Selmosson was very versatile player with great speed and dribbling. He was especially famous for his brillant ball control and shooting while at full speed, something similar like Kaka. Selmosson was mainly focused on scoring, rather than passing, had very strong shot and made a numerous fantastic goals from various distances and angles, he was also very good in aerial battles, thanks to his great jumping ability. Arne was two-footed player with good timing and instinct in box. His only weaknesses were too much individualistic play and especially his lazy attitude when playing in small provinces where he was too timid and turned off from the game. Arne Selmosson arrived in Italy in 1952, purchased by the then president of Udinese Dino Bruseschi, but could not be deployed immediately because of a decree of the President of the Council which prevented the use of foreign players. Selmosson remained inactive for a year. Coupled with the other bomber Lorenzo Bettini, Selmosson was the star with 34 appearances and 14 goals, 1954-1955 Udinese who stood in second place behind AC Milan. The Swedish playmaker left the Friuli next year, to wear the shirt of Lazio, where he racked up 101 appearances and 31 goals. After three seasons in the top biancoceleste, passed on the other side of the Tiber to Rome, for 135 million lire. With red and yellow jersey he played for three seasons, collecting 87 appearances and scoring 30 goals. He is the only player to score in the derby of Rome, for both Lazio and Roma. He then returned to Udinese, where he played three more championships, before closing his career with the Friuli in Serie B in 1964. With the Swedish National Team Selmosson was vice-champion in the 1958 World Cup. Arne Selmosson died in 2002.
