INFO:Franz Swoboda is former Austrian defender, regarded as the best defender of his generation in the country but his career was stopped by severe injury. He played as left wing back and left back in WM system, technically good with great positioning and man marking. Despite his short size and elegant style of play, he was pretty strong and tenacious player. Franz Swoboda came from the junior and played for the first time the Vienna Austria 1950/51 in the A-League for the club. As in the former offensive system of the Violet, the two jaw positions with Karl and Karl Stotz Kowanz were occupied prominent, but he had little chance of a regular place. In his first championship title 1952/53 he completed it is only eleven of the 26 championship games, according to most as the left side runners. Only in the WM system from 1954/55, when the retired Stotz as a stopper and Karl Kowanz moved to the right, was Franz Swoboda Fullback regulars. So it was that Franz Swoboda on 16 October 1955 was his debut in the Austrian national team against Hungary and was also a regular in the following period. Only to the glory days of sports clubs could make him Erich Hasenkopf this position temporarily in dispute. Greatest success in the national dress was to qualify for World Cup 1958 in Sweden, in Austria, but was eliminated in the round of last 16 against the eventual winner Brazil, the Soviet Union and eventual winners England. 1960/61 Franz Swoboda was to a certain point at a height of his creative life reached, with Austria, he was the second time and this champion with a record margin, before he drew upon in April 1961 a serious injury. In the national team of the era he knew Decker fully convince his last three matches ended in 3-0 win over Spain, 3-1 victory over the Soviet Union and with a 2-1 victory away to Italy. With his injury, Franz Swoboda was not only from the team, a failed operation and a long illness meant virtually the end of career. A Comback attempt two years later, with Austria was not crowned with success.
