Tle leading scorer of Kaiserslautern who netted 336 goals in 321 games for the club. Played mostly as centre forward, but also as winger. Ottmar was excellent in heading abilities and had strong shot with both feet, scored also from free kicks for his club. He was stronger than his brother Fritz and had solid speed and elegancy, and knew to make some good passes as well. Ottmar Walter played in his youth at the 1 FC Kaiserslautern, where he was later adopted in the men's team. 1941, during World War II, he was recalled to the Navy to Cuxhaven and Kiel. There, he moved to Cuxhaven SV and won them a place in the 1943 Gauliga Osthannover, the then first division. In the final round of the German Cup in 1943 he played in Holstein Kiel, which ended the final round after a 4-1 win over Schalke 04 with a 4-1 victory over Vienna Vienna as a third party. During the war he injured his right knee. After the war he moved again in 1947 back to Kaiserslautern. With his brother Fritz, he was instrumental in that 1 FC Kaiserslautern in 1951 and 1953 German Champion. With 295 goals in 275 games, he is the record scorer in the Oberliga Südwest. In 42 games for the German championship finals, he scored for Kaiserslautern and Kiel 31 goals. Walter wore 1950-1956 is 21 times the jersey of the DFB, scoring ten goals. The highlight of his career was winning the football World Cup in 1954 with the German team in the game against Hungary, which ended 3-2 for Germany. After many knee surgeries in 1959, he finished his career as a football player. After the war Walter had worked as a courier driver for the Food Office. Later he ran a gas station, which he handed over 1970th Until his retirement in 1984 he worked for the city of Kaiserslautern. On the occasion of his 80th Birthday he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit. The gateway to the north stand at the Fritz-Walter Stadium, named after his brother Fritz Walter, - also the occasion of his 80th Birthday - in Ottmar Walter Goal renamed.
