INFO:
Ghezzi was a goalkeeper. He spent the majority of his career at Inter from 1951 to 1958 and Milan from 1959 to 1965 ─ year of his retirement ─ making respectively 192 and 136 appearances. He played also for Rimini, Modena and Genoa. He capped 6 times for Italy.
Nickname "Kamikaze", Ghezzi was brave and especially renowned for his fast, timely and reckless but always effective attempts to come out of the goal to stop the opponent. He was the first "modern" goalkeeper, a warrior who opposed fearlessly the attackers and defended extremely the space. Ghezzi thought the main characteristic a goalkeeper needed to be considered such was the ability to predict the move of the best opposing striker and anticipate him with a sweeping, brave and acrobatic stop. He often and willingly left the goal, giving a defender the task to cover it. He also possessed good handling, making some steps back before catching the ball. His saves were spectacular for he sometimes was victim of his emotions and sensibility that led him to commit mistakes. He was less capable on the left side of the goal and suffered of disastrous psychological drops. That's the main reason why he didn't gain more caps for Italy.
