INFO

Abe Lenstra was not only an exceptionally gifted football player, but was also excellent in other areas. He was fast (100 meters in 10.9 seconds), he was good at skating, he was good at volleyball, tennis and table tennis. Abe could play drafts and billiards. He was an excellent speed skater, billiard player, athlete, long jumper and runner. Abe Lenstra made his debut in the main squad at the age of 15 and immediately became the top scorer in the second class that season (1936-1937), with 19 goals. Abe Lenstra was of exceptional class. He mastered all disciplines. He had speed, vision, a hard shot, an excellent dribble, was two-footed and a great header. If Abe had it on his hips, he was unstoppable. However, Abe was mostly erratic. Sometimes he did not give home and drove his fellow players to despair. Abe was also a lazy football player. He regularly saved his energy for one or two genius actions. Although Abe was not a real goal getter and not fixated on scoring goals, he is the absolute top scorer of Heerenveen (523 goals) and Dutch football. In the period from 1936 to 1963, he scored some 700 goals (in approximately 730 matches) in league football. During the 1946-1947 season, he hit no fewer than 46 times. When the matches for representative teams and cup matches are included, Abe has scored more than 850 goals.
