Garzena is a former right or left back. He spent the majority of his career at Juventus, making 186 appearances from 1952 to 1962 (he played for Alessandria in 1953-54 and was loaned to Vicenza in 1960-61). He retired in 1966 after seasons at Modena, Napoli and Ivrea. He capped for Italy once in 1958.
Garzena was an extremely strong defender, smart, tenacious, clever. He was always ready to tackle the opponent, doing so with determination, roughness, sometimes hitting ball and player but never with the intention of causing harm. He never cared about joining the attack or score a goal because he was focused only in denying the opposing forwards any chance to score. He was particularly fast and capable in the air as he could jump nearly 180 centimeters. He faced many of the best strikers of the time, although Garzena once mentioned Julinho as the one who troubled him the most due to his flawless dribbling and ball control.
