Armano was a right winger. He spent the majority of his career at Inter, making 255 appearances from 1948 to 1956, scoring 73 goals, winning back-to-back Serie A between 1952 and 1954. He played also for Alessandria, Torino and Derthona, retiring in 1961. He's arguably one of the best Italian players never to cap for Italy.
Regarded as the first ever Italian tornante, Armano was tireless, constantly running up and down the side, supporting both attack and defence thanks to his iron lungs. Very fast, elusive and reactive, he was capable of recovering balls in the midfield and pass them to a teammate or snatching the ball from a defender before shooting on goal. Because he wasn't in a very advanced position most of the times, he often crossed with a powerful low shot, trying to make the ball reach a well placed teammate. Excellent all-rounder, he was quick at tracking back when the opponents got past midfield as much as he was at rushing forward during the offense of his team. In fact, it looked like his default position in the field was in the midfield rather than the forward line and he often triggered the counter-attack from there with an exchange of passes. Sometimes, he even stayed back in the defence to control an opposing striker, acting like some sort of additional side back. I would say that in many occasions his position was right wing back even though such position didn't exist at the time. He proved to be a penalty specialist since 1954, scoring almost 20 penalties.
