Vic was longtime club and NT captain, very consistent on high level. He played as the right wing half, physically strong and technically gifted player with excellent long passes. True gentleman and leader, hardworking player with excellent heading abilities which enabled him to score after the set pieces. Mees learned, like many, playing football on the playground. He went to school in St. Edwarduscollege in Merksem. Antwerp FC saw some potential in the young footballer and in exchange for a pair of football he was drafted into the "Great Old". On December 26, 1944 the 17-year-old Mees made his debut in the first team of Antwerp. He would attract the red and white shirt a total of 649 times. On October 2, 1960 he played his last game for the national team against Netherlands. Mees earned his 68th cap that day. He scored three as Red Devil.
