Bernasconi is Sampdoria legend who terrorized centre forwards in 50's and 60's. He played as stopper, his duty was to mark giant attackers like Nordahl, Jeppson, Charles, Hansen etc and he was their nightmare. Bernasconi rarely crossed the centre line, he was player with good sense of positioning and with bulky and thickset physique, very reactive. Had enormous body balance and closed the opponents with quick shifts to exploit his astuteness and strength. He had also unbelievable leap, they called him "palla di gomma" - the rubber ball, due to his enormous jumping abilites which enabled him to win every aerial battle. Bernasconi was noticed and bought by Atalanta, in which he debuts in the top division for only 20 years, remaining in neroazzurro for another season. He then goes on to Sampdoria, by which disputes no less than 11 seasons, all in league, becoming an immovable pillar, making an idol of the fans and also won the National Team call-up. In fact, in blue NT jersey disputed 6 games, including matches against Argentina and Brazil in South America tour in summer 1956. Hhe concluded his career in the Marche, playing three seasons in Serie C with Jesi, and two in series with the D Urbino. In calculating the total in Serie A, is still located on the 60th place of all time. With 334 appearances for Sampdoria has long been the player most in this league with Sampdoria, is currently third behind Mancini and Mannini.
