INFO:
Meroni was a centre-forward and right-winger, occasionally deployed as inside-right. His career started in 1943 at Cormons. He transferred to Atalanta in 1946 and Treviso in 1947. He then had his best time at Como from 1948 to 1951, making 102 appearances and scoring 38 goals, playing a major role in Como's promotion from Serie B to Serie A in 1948-49. He also played for Padova from 1951 to 1955, Reggiana in 1955-56, and Marsala from 1956 to 1958, year of his retirement.
Exclusively a centre-forward in his first year at Como, Meroni transitioned into inside-right for a brief period and then primarily right-winger mainly due to the arrival of Vittorio Ghiandi. Meroni possessed solid pace and a remarkable shooting ability, although it wasn't uncommon for him to miss easy chances, while he could score excellent goals with good power from outside the box. He was also good in the air as he scored some headers and at least one bicycle kick. Furthermore, he had remarkable passing and good crossing skills with which he provided numerous scoring chances. However, he often preferred to go solo, cut inside if he was playing on the wing, dribble a couple defenders and beat the goalkeeper. The necessary transition from centre-forward to winger gave more tactical solutions, but Meroni didn't play as consistently well as he used to in his original role.
