INFO:Chilton was a centre-half. He grew up at Liverpool as a wing-half but was turned into a centre-half after signing for Manchester United in 1938. He stayed at the club until 1955, making 391 appearances and scoring 3 goals. He retired in 1956 after spending one and a half seasons at Grimsby Town. He capped for England twice in 1950-51.
Considered a player's player as he was always willing to help newcomers getting used to the environment, Chilton was the main pillar of Manchester United's defence. He was very strong due to his past as boxer and nearly unbeatable in the air. On the other hand, he had a notable weakness in his lack of pace that earned him some embarassing moments and negative critics from the fans.
