INFOAlfonso Silva was a Spanish football player considered the best in the history of Canary Islands' football. The best ever player to wear Atletico Madrid shirt. Silva played first as centre forward but than moved back to inside right and right wing half position. One of the technically most gifted Spanish players ever, phenomenal passer, especially remarkable long balls over 50 meters which were milimetric precise although he preffered short passes.
Silva dazzled with his individual technique: he could send the ball from the penalty spot of his area to the end of the opposite area without it rising a second from the grass. Excellent dribbling skills over the short distance, incredible vision, ball control and agility. But he was difficult character, he didn't like to help in defence and he had a lot of disciplinary problems which caused his departure from Atletico. Silva was part of the great Helenio Herrera Atletico won two league titles (1949/1950 and 1950/1951) and one Copa Eva Duarte de Perón (1951). In February 1957 he completed his first year of punishment and forgiveness thanks to Atletico requested by the Federation, Silva was able to return to play. The club passed for 300,000 pesetas to Las Palmas where he remained until the season 1958/1959. At 33 he retired from playing one of the greatest players of Spain class and technique of all time. Silva dazzled by his ball, his intelligence, his finesse, elegance and vision. Fans enjoyed a balloon artist, a genius, a football savant. In the At.Madrid, the canary guy played 154 league games (38 goals) and 23 Cup matches (five goals). In addition, international five-time (1 goal) with Spain with which he participated in World Brasil'50. Once retired, married to a German and tried his hand as a coach with the Konstanz (FRG) and the Kreuzlinger (Switzerland). A hip injury kept him from further linked to football and went to work in the textile factory Konstanz. The February 16, 2007, Silva died at the age of 80.
