Attack / Defence Awareness Card: Defence MindedINFO:Omero Tognon was legendary Milan captain from 40's and 50's. He played as centre half and wing half, imposed with his strong physique and detemination, not blessed with great pace but had solid footwork and was useful in starting the attacks from the back line. Sometimes lacked self confidence and decision in his moves, he was in charge of marking dangerous centre forwards. Born in Padova on 3 March 1924, debuted in football shirt of S. Bassanello. In 1946 he was bought from AC Milan where he shows his undoubted qualities. He played his entire career (with the exception of the last two years with Pordenone, in the fourth league), in Milan in the late 40's and fifties, coming to be the captain, winning the league titles in 1950-51 and 1954-55 (although on this occasion but never take the field, because of a serious injury). During his career, he collected 293 Serie A appearances, scoring a single goal, that of the final draw in the derby of the November 4, in 1951. After ending with competitive activity, he began to coach, took place mostly in lower divisions (among other things, has led the Verona for two seasons in Serie B and Crotone). With the Italian national team took part in two World Cup in Brazil in 1950 and 1954 in Switzerland. The second game against Switzerland was his last cap for the 'Azzurri'. During his long militancy in MILAN (14 years) made his international debut. He had for colleagues among the others, the magnificent TRIO Gren - Nordahl - Liedholm and National Team players like Annovazzi , Carapellese, Gimona and "Golden Head" Puricelli. At the end of his brilliant playing career started as a coach at first to Cagliari, then in Verona, Arezzo, Pisa and Ravenna. He has proved training the youth of Fontanafredda with excellent results. Omero Tognon died on 23/08/1990.
