Mari was player with good positioning and covering every space left by his teammates, although he played mainly as a right wing half. He was very strong in aerial battles and possessed excellent athletic preparation, unselfish and brave he immediately became an engine of all teams he played for. Mari grew up in the football club Cremonese and played with "grigiorossi" category cadet until the season 1945/46. In 1946/47 passed in the Atalanta and made his debut in Serie A on September 22, 1946. With Atalanta Giacomo played three very good seasons coming to notice in particular by the leaders Juventus who, wishing to revive the line of black and white, bought him in 1949 along with the Palermo midfielder Alberto Piccinini. With Juventus of Boniperti collects in four seasons, 135 appearances (133 in the league and 2 in Latin Cup 1952) 9 goals and winning two league titles. Left Juventus in 1953/54 in the direction Genoa at Sampdoria, where he remained until the 1955/56 season, before moving to Padua of Nereo Rocco and finished his career in Serie C returning to the Cremonese. During his career he has collected a total of 426 appearances and 24 goals in Serie A (that puts him among the 30 players currently no longer in the top division) and 23 appearances in Serie B. With the excellent performance in the Nerazzurri shirt of Atalanta, Giacomo Mari, gets the call for the London Olympics in 1948 and debuted in the National Team underVittorio Pozzo on August 2, 1948. In 1950 he was summoned along with the entire line of Juventus (Mari, Parola and Piccinini) and Ferruccio Novo participated in the World Cup. At The World Cup, Mari will also participate in 1954.
