INFO:

Apostol Sokolov is legendary Bulgarian keeper and father of Georgi Sokolov, also famous Bulgarian footballer. Apostol is regarded as one of the best Bulgarian keepers and the first one who began to leave the goal line like modern keepers and even Lev Yashin said Sokolov was his ispiration. Apostol had good reflexes and sense of positioning but above all he's remembered for his innovative style of play. A graduate of Bulgaria (Sofia), he played in six seasons in Levski between 1939 to 1949, with interruptions. Apostol Zlatkov Sokolov participated in 57 league games, 33 games for Bulgaria Cup (King's Cup and the Cup of the Soviet Army), 9 and more than 20 international meetings. Champion of Bulgaria in 1946, 1947 and 1949 and won the National Cup in the same year. For "A" national team played 15 games, and the "B" national team - the first match. He played for more teams Spartak (Sofia) and Prince Cyril (This team was later renamed the Postal Sports Club and in 1945 was united with Levski Levski named PUK). Apostol Sokolov died in 1987.
