INFOMax Michallek was really Beckenbauer of the 50's. He wasn't too much known outside of Germany because due to his broken relationship with Sepp Herberger he wasn't allowed to play for German NT. Michallek's role was, what will later become famous as attacking libero. He was one of the first defenders in Germany who regularly joined the attack where he impressed with his fantastic long balls and powerful shooting. Max was very gifted technician with good speed which was unusual for somebody of his heigth, very elegant but also strong with "Horse lungs" and great sense of anticipating and was the main playmaker of excellent Borussia side of the 50's. Michallek played in the youth at Borussia Dortmund. With the A-Jugend BVB 1938 he was master Westphalia, where he was the best man with two goals. He gave the premiere season of the league 1947/48 West made his debut in the first Team of Borussia Dortmund, where he was most active as a center half and 1960. His greatest success as a player was winning the German championship in 1956 and 1957, when he stood in each of the Endspielelf Borussia. A total of 292 completed Michallek league and 22 finals games for Dortmund and scored 20 goals in total. He also stood in nine European matches in the team of Borussia. Quote:
