Olavo Leite Bastos, better known as Kafunga was Atletico's goalkeeper between the 1930 and 1950. One of the most popular figures of his time in Belo Horizonte, Olavo began his sports career in 1933 playing for Fluminense Athletic Club, which operated in the Rio club amateur pictures of his hometown, Niterói. Atletico came in 1935, where he won his first championship mining in the following year. The nickname "Kafunga" was given by her grandmother, because of the wide nostrils.
He was 20 years at Atletico, with holder for 19 seasons. Despite not having great technique, exuded great charisma. Kafunga pulled rabbits out of hats, like the time that prevented a goal, turning a bicycle, in a game between Atletico and Ponte Preta in Campinas. He was champion in 1936, mining champion that year, and in 1938, 1939, 1941, 1942, 1946, 1947, 1949 and 1950. He toured Europe in 1950, participated in the campaigns of 1952 and 1953 and finally in 1954, ended the playing career.

After 1954, when he left football, he continued participating in the athletic life of exercising the most varied functions as a real fixer, reaching even to be coach for a brief period. His irreverence became the mark Kafunga, which made him split his time between TV Itacolomi, Alterosa TV, Radio and Guarani newspaper Diario da Tarde. On radio, he served as commentator for arbitration and presented the musical program "Kafunga of all time." He ventured even as a singer, and was subsequently taken into politics by Juscelino Kubitschek. During Brazil's military ditatuda, Kafunga was elected councilman in the House Municial of Belo Horizonte, changing its name Kafunga Olavo Leite Bastos. Held the position for 16 years. According to Beatriz Vasques Bastos, Kafunga widow, the former goalkeeper was so well known that won elections without campaigning.
Due to its passage through the goal Atletico Mineiro and several other position he held with the same commitment when goalkeeper Kafunga joined the mining history of football. Among the many proofs of the importance of their presence, the expression is well known in Minas Gerais to deal with very old things, when we say that something happened in "one thousand nine hundred and Kafunga."
